Exoneration in the Face of False Accusations
Accused of rape and sexual abuse following an online dating encounter, the Client was arrested in December 2021. The client’s arrest generated significant media interest, affecting his personal and professional life, including suspension from his job.
Indicted in 2022 on multiple charges and facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted, the Client engaged the services of Attorney Paul DerOhannesian. Citing exculpatory evidence that had not been fully investigated earlier, DerOhannesian revealed that the accuser had a history of making false sexual assault allegations. Pivotal in challenging the claims was an extensive private investigation of the complainant’s credibility conducted across several states.
Paul DerOhannesian’s findings led the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office to file a motion to drop the charges "in the interest of justice." On October 3, 2022, on the eve of trial, all charges against the Client were dismissed by the Saratoga County Court.
DerOhannesian’s strategic legal defense highlighted the importance of thorough investigations and the real-life harm of false accusations. Despite the impact on his reputation, Client was ultimately exonerated, reinstated with back pay, thanks to the expert handling of his case by the team at DerOhannesian and DerOhannesian.
